Pole Vault Canada Mar. 1-7

Pole Vault Canada Mar. 1-7

This past week was fairly quiet.  Many vaulters took the weekend off in preparation for the events on the Mar. 11/12 weekend when both the CIS and NCAA indoor championships take place.  There were still 32 improvements in the 2016 Indoor rankings but only two new award winners.  Karleigh Parker(Woodstock) jumped 4.00m and Andrew Choi(Edmonton International) jumped 4.05m.

There are several things to pay attention to this coming weekend.  The CIS championships at York will surely produce strong results and a good competition.   Robin Bone(Univ. of Western Ont.) and David Mckay(York) both aim to defend their 2015 titles and both enter the field ranked 1st but there is pressure from the rest of the field.

Alysha Newman(London) will be competing for Univ. of Miami Saturday afternoon(4:00pm) at the NCAA indoor championships in Birmingham Alabama.  Alysha is currently ranked 4th in the field and is hoping for a podium finish.  If Alysha continues to compete as well as she has in her past three meets – 4.50m, 4.50m and 4.42m, she will have good chance.  Unfortunately, Allison Harris(Toronto) of Princeton, after having a fantastic indoor season,  narrowly missed the cutoff for Birmingham.

Makiah Hunt(Niagara Falls), Samuel Burton(Montreal) and Tristan Slater(North Bay) are on their way to the New Balance Indoor High School Championships in New York.  Mak jumps on Sunday morning and Tristan and Sam go on Saturday.

Good Luck everyone!
